There have been a lot of questions about Constitutional Carry, so we want to make sure you have all of the facts before the hearing scheduled for next week.
The Nevada Firearms Coalition and our lobbyist review all firearms bills before taking a position. We look for issues that will negatively affect Nevada gun owners and unintended consequences. From there we prepare our position letters that are submitted as part of our testimony.
One of the biggest legislative goals we have for this year is to cleanup bad gun laws, so it is important to us that we be cautious and not rush to support legislation for the sake of supporting legislation so we don't have to come back and fix those laws in the future.
It is not uncommon to find small issues with bills, but in the case of Constitutional Carry, we found what we believe to be an unintended consequence that cannot be ignored. As written this bill will amend Nevada's seizure provisions to cover all firearms, where as currently it is limited to prohibited weapons. Due to this, we’ve been in touch with the bill sponsor, Senator Don Gustavson, and the NRA-ILA lobbyist to find a solution that will not open Nevada gun owners to more liabilities and potential firearms seizures.
We support the concept of Constitutional Carry 100%, but if we cannot amend SB143, we will not be able to support the bill. That is why you have not seen more alerts from us about it and the upcoming hearing.
We’re asking you to join us today in urging Senator Gustavson to amend the bill. Please click here to sign our petition to show your support of Constitutional Carry that does not put Nevada gun owners at risk of unintended consequences and potential firearms seizures.
